چکیده

The adaptive traffic signal control system, as well as the Transit Signal Priority (TSP) concept has both been viewed as important opportunities for reducing overall traffic congestions and improving bus transit services. However, few studies were conducted on combining them together. A dynamic signal timing optimization model was developed in this research, which aims at reallocating green times among the phases with considering the realtime traffic flow condition and the bus priority request. In the model, both arrival and departure flows are described by time-dependent functions, the arrival of a bus with priority request is represented by giving a weight factor to the traffic demand of the associated approach. The weight factor is also defined as a time-dependent function of three variables: present traffic demand and queuing conditions of the bus arriving approach vs. that of the intersection and the lateness of the target bus. As the bus is converted to a relevant number of arrivals of passenger vehicles by the weight factor, the objective of the dynamic model is to minimize the average delay at the intersection.

Transit Signal Priority: Proposing a Novel Algorithm to Decrease Delay and Environmental Impacts in BRT Route Intersections

Intersections are considered as the most critical parts of the bus rapid transit (BRT) system. Transit signal priority is one of the efficient solutions to reduce BRT fleet delays at intersections. The aim of this study is to propose a new algorithm to decrease the BRT fleet delays at actuated intersections, while reducing the negative impacts on different approaches. The adaptive strategy is a...

A Controller Design with ANFIS Architecture Attendant Learning Ability for SSSC-Based Damping Controller Applied in Single Machine Infinite Bus System

Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) is a series compensating Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) controller for maintaining to the power flow control on a transmission line by injecting a voltage in quadrature with the line current and in series mode with the line. In this work, an Adaptive Network-based Fuzzy Inference System controller (ANFISC) has been proposed for controlling o...

Adaptive Fuzzy Dynamic Sliding Mode Control of Nonlinear Systems

Two phenomena can produce chattering: switching of input control signal and the large amplitude of this switching (switching gain). To remove the switching of input control signal, dynamic sliding mode control (DSMC) is used. In DSMC switching is removed due to the integrator which is placed before the plant. However, in DSMC the augmented system (system plus the integrator) is one dimension bi...

Simulation Study of a Bus Signal Priority Strategy Based on GPS/AVL and Wireless Communications

Providing signal priority for buses has been proposed as an inexpensive way to improve transit efficiency, productivity and reduce operation costs [1]. Bus signal priority has been implemented in several US cities to improve schedule adherence, reduce transit operation costs, and improve customer ride quality [2]. Current signal priority strategies implemented in various US cities mostly utiliz...

Adaptive Sliding Mode Control of Multi-DG, Multi-Bus Grid-Connected Microgrid

This paper proposes a new adaptive controller for the robust control of a grid-connected multi-DG microgrid (MG) with the main aim of output active power and reactive power regulation as well as busbar voltage regulation of DGs. In addition, this paper proposes a simple systematic method for the dynamic analysis including the shunt and series faults that are assumed to occur in the MG. The pres...
